Traveling
Magician
In 1877, John Rogers produced a tabletop sculpture of a
traveling magician entertaining a small audience of two, performing his miracles with an
assistant secretly tucked under his table. This statue has become a sought-after piece of
magical art. Less than 50 are known to exist. Take a look at this wonderful exhibit.
Magician's
Tokens
Souvenir coins made for individual magicians and magic companies
were popular advertising pieces, especially in the early part of the
20th century. See some of the most popular ones, tokens that are still
fairly easy to acquire today.
Scaling
Cards
Alexander Herrmann made an art out of
tossing playing cards to specific audience members. These souvenir
cards became a popular advertising vehicle in the early part of the
20th century. Card scaling is a skill still practiced today.
